We all knew this was a possibility, but now it appears to have happened: David Beckham has suffered a "potentially serious knee injury" in a Primera Liga match against Getafe. He appeared to sustain the injury when he hit some adverising signs while he was trying to chase down a ball. He stayed in the game for a while, but was substituted off in the 68th minute, visibly limping.
According to Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello, Beckham has sustained ligament damage in his knee and will miss this week's Champions League match at Bayern Munich. "It looks serious but I do not want to say how bad until the doctors do the scan."
Clubs doctors described it as "an injury to the lateral-internal ligament of the right knee."
He will undergo further tests tomorrow and we should know more then. Beckham will likely be out for up to six weeks.
If the injury is more serious, then you have to believe Alexi Lalas and AEG will be kicking themselves in the arse for not ponying up the money for a transfer fee when they had the chance. However, as it stands right now, Becks should be good to go by mid-April in the worst-case scenerio.
