Crew Signs Schelotto

Columbus Crew general manager Mark McCullers has confirmed that they have signed Guillermo Barros Schelotto to a two-year deal. The move is not a surprising one as rumors of Guillermo's move to MLS preceded the official announcement by weeks. But what did come as a surprise is that Columbus did not use their Designated Player slot to secure Schelotto, leaving open the option of another shot at landing Brian McBride, or trading the DP spot away.

"We do have him under contract," McCullers said. Schelotto must obtain a work permit, which should take a few days, but he may be available to play against the Los Angeles Galaxy in a U.S. Open Cup game in Columbus on Tuesday.

Schelotto comes to Columbus from Boca Juniors, where he is a 10-year veteran with the popular Argentine club.
