Eskandarian Swapped For Cunningham

Update: According to a Toronto FC blog, the club has traded Alecko Eskandarian to Real Salt Lake along with a first-round pick in the 2008 draft for Jeff Cunningham. The Galaxy, initially thought to be a third party in the trade, were not involved with the deal. See original rumor below.

The trade winds in Major League Soccer may be blowing again this morning. The hottest rumor involves Real Salt Lake trading Jeff Cunningham to the L.A. Galaxy, possibly in exchange for Nate Jaqua and an unknown player. At the same time, Toronto FC's Alecko Eskandarian is also rumored to be on his way to RSL via a trade.

It is unclear whether there is actually any meat to these rumors, but Stephen Goff of the Washington Post has picked up on it, meaning we could see a deal going down soon.

The Galaxy have been in the market for a proven goal scorer after not getting much production from Jaqua. Last week, rumors of Carlos Ruiz returning to L.A. were swirling, but nothing has come of those yet. Recently, more and more fans have become fed up with Jaqua, so the possibility of him being traded for a goal scorer like Cunningham makes sense to me.

As soon as anything changes, I'll keep you updated.
