Makelele Interested In MLS

Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has said a move to America is something that interests him, even though he has a year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge. Makelele, 34, was a big part of Chelsea's back-to-back title run in '05 and '06, but is faced with being over-run by youth in the form of Lassana Diarra and Mikel John Obi. "I have not decided where I will play next season. I could remain with Chelsea, as I am under contract for next season. The United States is an option. It wouldn't prevent me from playing for France, ask the coach," said Makelele.

The France international midfielder had wanted to retire from international football after the 2006 FIFA World Cup, but has continually been a part of the national team squad since then. He has gone on record as saying he would love to play for his country in Euro 2008 - but Makelele's insistence on continuing his international career has riled Blues coach Jose Mourinho, with the coach saying Makelele must cut down on his international football if he wants to be a part of the club's starting XI in the future.

In his career, Makelele has earned 126 caps from both Real Madrid and Chelsea, and 53 caps for the national team. He is a true holding midfielder, having attempted less than five shots on goal over the last three years.

As a Blues fan, I would hate to lose him, but as an MLS fan, I'd love to see him over here. My only worry is that his style of play would not be appreciated on this side of the pond. He was not very appreciated when he first jumped to the Prem, then we won 2 titles.
