Power Rankings - Week 10

Here are my power rankings for Week 10 (06/04 - 06/10). Last week's position is in parenthesis.

1. (1) New York Red Bulls
Despite the recent spate of injuries, the Red Bulls are still the best team in the league. They have an explosive offense and a solid player at every position. Juan Pablo Angel is consistently contributing 1-2 goals per game for the team and looks like the best player in the league week-in and week-out.

2. (3) Kansas City Wizards
Eddie Johnson single-handedly powered the Wizards over the aforementioned Red Bulls en route to his second-straight hat trick. With the Gold Cup now upon us, Kansas City fans may find themselves surprised to be missing EJ this much.

3. (2) New England Revolution
Even with their offense running in high-gear, the Revs couldn't find the back of the net against lowly Real Salt Lake and had to settle for a 0-0 tie - not the most promising result for the club. However, there are plenty of goals in this team's future - but their main supplier, Taylor Twellman, will be with the national team for the next few weeks.

4. (4) Colorado Rapids
Couldn't steal a point while in Toronto, but could still move back on top of the West with a win in Houston on Thursday. Colorado is still too up-and-down to crack the top 3.

5. (5) Chivas USA
No game last week - Chivas might be running into the Chicago Fire at the wrong time. Brad Guzan and Jonathan Bornstein are representing at the Gold Cup and will be unavailable for some time. Bob Bradley has hinted that both players will be pulling double-duty in this summer's two tournaments - meaning they may not return until after the All-Star Break.

6. (6) D.C. United
Rather lackluster performance against the Galaxy last week. They should have been buried by Nate Jaqua early in the game - any other player would have made it 2-0 Galaxy early on. Still, taking a point away from L.A. keeps D.C.'s unbeaten streak alive.

7. (10) Chicago Fire
Moving back up, beating Columbus could be a good confidence boost for the club. They face Chivas minus two of the Goats' big star players (see #5 above) and should get another three points at Toyota Park.

8. (8) Toronto FC
Another home win, another good crowd. Their offense is now existant, their defense is better. Definitely a lower-seed threat come playoff-time, if they can sneak in.

9. (7) Los Angeles Galaxy
The Galaxy have lost nearly a full squad of players due to injuries or call-ups but they keep forging ahead. When healthy, this team WILL be one of the best in the league again. But will they have put themselves in too deep of a hole at that point? Tied for the lowest point total in the league with Real Salt Lake... yikes.

10. (9) FC Dallas
The Hoops are slowly starting to sink back to my pre-season expectations. They are tied for the highest number of losses in the league, and yet they still lead the West due to the wonders of MLS scheduling. There is an abundance of talent on this team... but none of it is defensive. They would do well to pick up a strong defender in the next transfer window.

11. (12) Houston Dynamo
Looked better in downing their bitter intra-state rivals. Unfortunately, Brian Ching, Ricardo Clark, Pat Onstad and Dwayne De Rosario will not be suiting up for the Men in Orange anytime soon, thanks to the Gold Cup. That leaves primary offensive duties to... Joseph Ngwenya?

12. (13) Real Salt Lake
It's time for them to move out of the basement. They've only lost once in their last five league games. Of course, that's one more time than they've won over that span. Still, consistently not losing is a promising sign for the club.

13. (11) Columbus Crew
Guillermo Barros Schelotto can be fun to watch. The rest of the team needs some work. Frankie Hejduk's fine play has earned him a spot with the national team. Everyone else... not so much.

Hey, Love your site first of all. But I'm an LA fan and even I think we should be behind Dallas and Houston. Those two teams are at least improving and showing up at their games. We (The Galaxy) have looked horrible every game. I'm just begging we sneak into a playoff spot.

I don't care how much improvement you show. If you have not won a game and the other teams have, then you need to remain at the bottom. RSL should not be above anyone. Especially with their top scoring threat gone now, Esky will probably only put in 1/2 as many goals as Cunningham.
