Major League Soccer is in negotiations with the three top wireless providers in the country about possible sponsorships or content delivery deals, said commissioner Don Garber on Wednesday.
The league is talking to Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Sprint Nextel, with hopes of signing a deal in about six months, right around the start of the 2008 season. The focus of such an agreement would be to increase exposure for the league and create additional revenue and Text-message score alerts and video clips of games could be part of the agreement.
"We're deeply engaged with all the carriers," said Garber at the Reuters Media Summit in New York. "We want to sign a deal that will provide us with the best level of exposure and revenue. We're in the process of evaluating our whole digital space."
