Steven Goff of the Washington Post and the Soccer Insider blog is reporting that there is a mega-deal in the works.
The multi-team deal would involve FC Dallas sending Carlos Ruiz to the Los Angeles Galaxy, while the Galaxy would send D.C. United their current goalkeeper Joe Cannon, with the Hoops receiving D.C. defender Bobby Boswell and cash.
At this point, it isn't clear whether the deal has been vetoed by the league, as was rumored, because L.A. already has one Designated Player (David Beckham), and would have two grandfathered-in DPs if the deal goes down (Ruiz, Landon Donovan).TJ's take: I find it hard to believe the league would be the one to kill the deal, or at least for the reason stated above, only because MLS has gone out of its way to bend rules for teams in the past (especially the Galaxy). Los Angeles tried several times in '07 to get the Guatemalan forward back in a Galaxy uniform, so it looks like - one way or another - El Pescadito will be playing alongside Becks and Landy-Cakes in 2008.
