Juan Pablo Angel is on fire. He continued his magnificent play on Thursday night with two more goals and an assist as the New York Red Bulls doused the Chicago Fire, 3-0. The Colombian Angel has scored three times and added two assists in league play since joining the New York lineup, and is an early favorite to win back-to-back Player of the Week awards.
Chicago was down and out almost before the game began, giving up a Jozy Altidore goal in the very first minute and allowing Angel to strike less than two minutes later. The Fire defense was exposed early, but recovered until Angel's second goal on the night (68') made it a 3-0 game.
Red Bull New York improves their record to 5-1-2 (17 points) and share the best record in the league with the New England Revolution. New York is off until next Saturday's road game in Kansas City.
With the loss, Chicago moves to 3-4-1 (10 points) on the season. The team got 10 points out of a possible 12 in the month of April, but has gone 0-4-0 in May, being outscored 11-3 in those contests. The Fire return home to Toyota Park when Real Salt Lake comes to town on Sunday.
