Galaxy Can't Handle Twellman

Taylor Twellman could not be contained on Saturday night. The Galaxy fell to the Revolution, 3-2, behind two second-half Twellman strikes at the Home Depot Center.

The Galaxy got off to a good start, going ahead in the 14th minute thanks to a Kyle Martino goal. It stood up going into the break, but the Revs came out firing in the 2nd half - Adam Cristman scored his first career goal in the 47th minute and Twellman added another just five minutes later.

The Galaxy dramatically pulled even in the 84th minute when Tyrone Marshall headed home a Landon Donovan corner kick. Even before the celebration died down, Taylor Twellman found the back of the net again less than a minute later, giving the Revs a 3-2 victory and boosting his league-leading goal total to 6 on the season.

TJ's take: Heading into the game, I was fearful that Twellman would shred L.A.'s defense, and he definitely did that. The Galaxy seem to have 15 midfielders and only one or two defenders on their roster at this point. Not having any forwards is becoming an equally big issue; Nate Jaqua's performance has been underwhelming to say the least, and Robbie Findley is only a rookie. Things definitely have to be sorted out the City of Angels before they are ready to move to the next level.

Your take is spot on. And not only do the Gals have 15 midfielders they are all distinctly of the defensive or journeyman variety.

Jaqua - man I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they picked him up. He's a lead-foot who can't hold the ball in front of the goal. His first touch is like a chainsaw.

Ty Harden is definately a step down from Ihemelu, Albright is slowing down (when you get schooled by Khano Smith you know there's a problem), Jazic can't make a cross to save his life (he's better than Dunivant? umm, no) and Marshall is showing his age.

The midfield is so bad Yallop has Donovan starting on the right, which is garbage since that takes him away from half the field.

I like the trade rumors that have Ruiz coming to the Galaxy for Jaqua and Albright. That would be outstanding, but I can't understand why Dallas would do that, unless they think it is time for Thompson and Oduro to shine.

Anyway the Galaxy need one more reliable striker another attacking midfielder (two would be better), and two defenders who don't get beaten like prisoners at Abu Graihb.

Cheers. Read your stuff with regularity.
