Steven Goff of the Washington Post is reporting that D.C. United has agreed to trade Argentine defender Facundo Erpen to the Colorado Rapids in exchange for Greg Vanney. Vanney makes more than twice as much as Erpen ($236,000 to $115,000) and part of the deal states that Colorado will be responsible for Vanney's salary this year while D.C. United will be responsible for the rest of Erpen's 2007 salary. Vanney, 33, is an established defender in the league and has earned 37 caps for the U.S. during his career. Along with playing for the Galaxy, FC Dallas and Colorado in his career, Vanney also suited up for French Ligue 1 side SC Bastia from 2002 - 2005.
Erpen, 24, was part of the Boca Juniors youth system and has been with United since 2005. He is known for being a very physical defender and has had several altercations with teammates.
Trivia: Landon Donovan once proclaimed on a radio show that Erpen is the ugliest player in the league.
