Quaranta Out (Corrected)

Earlier, the MLS Zone reported that Santino Quaranta had been traded to the Kansas City Wizards for a draft pick. Apparently, that deal fell apart late and he was instead traded today to the New York Red Bulls, in exchange for a conditional 4th-round draft pick in 2008.

Trading the midfielder was strictly a budgetary move, according to general manager Alexi Lalas. But the decision was made easier by Quaranta's decision to let his fitness go. He has been overweight since the pre-season and has been held goal-less in six appearances on the year.
