Carlos Pavon To Join Galaxy

Not content with bringing in only one new forward this week, the Los Angeles Galaxy have reportedly signed Honduran forward Carlos Pavon. New Jersey's own Ives Galarcep says the deal is done.Pavon may have caught the attention of Galaxy brass when he scored four goals earlier this week in Honduras' 5-0 dismantling of Cuba in the Gold Cup. He had a first-half hat trick after goals in the 3rd, 12th and 43rd minutes and and added one more early in the second half before being taken off the pitch to rest him for Sunday's quarterfinal match against Guadalupe.

Pavon, 33, played most recently for Real Espana in his home country, scoring 15 goals in just 20 appearances. He has also earned 66 caps with the national team and is the team's all-time leading scorer with 46 goals.

TJ's take: The Galaxy have done a nice job of upgrading at the forward position over the past few days. I was content with the trade for Edson Buddle - the addition of Pavon surprised me, but should pay dividends for the club.

Where does Nate Jaqua fit in the formation now? If I were the coach, I'd stick Jaqua up top as a target forward and have Pavon and Buddle making runs to either side of him. Some have suggested now is the perfect time to trade Jaqua, but I think he could catch fire very soon. Plus, Jaqua's trade value has taken a dent from his poor performance to start 2007.
