David Beckham's injured ankle will again keep him out of action when the Los Angeles Galaxy take on Chivas de Guadalajara on Saturday night in the SuperLiga. Head coach Frank Yallop is taking no chances, opting to use an abundance of caution when it comes to the fitness of his new superstar.
"He is feeling better," said Yallop. "He gets a lot of work done on it and it gets sore, then the work that he's had done is obviously helping it, so the soreness keeps getting lighter and lighter. So it is just a matter of time really."
Yallop also said Beckham would be more likely to see some time in Tuesday's game at FC Dallas, their final game of the SuperLiga group stage. Pizza Hut Park has all but been sold out for that match, the only chance for fans in Dallas to get a glimpse of Beckham on the field in 2007. Only a limited number of standing-room only spots remain available for the game.
As for tonight's game, a crowd of 50,000 is expected to watch Mexico's most popular team take on the Galaxy (7 p.m. PST, TeleFutura). The game was moved from the Home Depot Center to the Coliseum in anticipation of a much larger crowd.
The Galaxy sit on top of Group A after defeating Pachuca on Tuesday, while Chivas de Guadalajara fought FC Dallas to a tie, putting them in a tie for second in the same group.
