Chicago Fire Update

Ever been stood up for a date? If you answered yes, then you probably know how the Chicago Fire feels in their attempt to sign Marcelo Salas. Luis Arroyave of the Chicago Tribune writes on his blog that the Fire offered a contract to the Chilean star following a brief trial in May. Arroyave says Salas not only didn’t bother to inform the team of his decision, but he eventually stopped returning their phone calls altogether.

While Salas won’t be joining the team anytime soon, Cuauhtemoc Blanco will suit up with the Fire for the first time on July 22 for an exhibition against Celtic FC at Toyota Park. His arrival could be a badly-needed spark for the Fire, with the club having earned just one win in their last 11 league games, putting them in the Eastern cellar.
