The back-to-back champion Houston Dynamo have extended the contract of current head coach Dominic Kinnear through the 2010 season, the team has announced.Kinnear, 40, has led the club to championships in each of the franchise's first two years in Houston. It was the first time in 10 years that a team has gone back-to-back in MLS, and only the second time in history.
"We believe that Dominic Kinnear is one of the best coaches in the league," Dynamo president Oliver Luck said. "His success with the team over the past two years speaks for itself. We are delighted that Kinnear is under contract for the next three years."
Kinnear has compiled a 53-30-41 record all-time in his coaching career, and has won four MLS Cups, two of those coming as an assistant with the San Jose Earthquakes in '01 and '03. Prior to this year's championship game, San Jose had requested - and was denied - permission to speak to Houston's skipper about a possible return to the Bay Area, possibly prompting a rush on new contract talks in Houston.
