Perkins Transfer Official

D.C. United has reportedly reached an agreement with Norwegian club Valerenga on a transfer fee in the range of $750,000 for goalkeeper Troy Perkins.The 2006 Goalkeeper of the Year, Perkins, 26, will make roughly $200,000 annually over the next five years, which represents a 150% increase over his 2007 salary of $87,500 with D.C. He becomes the first player from the American continent to sign with the team, and the sixth American to feature in a Norwegian club's lineup.

Perkins compiled a 16-6-7 record with D.C. in 2007, posting a 1.10 GAA to go along with eight shutouts. In 77 career games in the league, Perkins went 36-19-22, with a 1.22 career GAA and 19 shutouts.

United began preparing for his departure last week, when the club arranged a trade with the Houston Dynamo for their back-up 'keeper, Zach Wells.

About Valerenga: Founded in 1913, Oslo-based Valerenga has been crowned champions of the Tippeligaen five times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2005. The '07 season saw the club finish 7th out of 14 clubs in the country's top division, going 10-6-10 during the regular season.
