Beckham Back For England

David Beckham made his return to international soccer on Friday evening and got the assist on England's only goal against Brazil in a 1-1 tie at the new Wembley Stadium.

A sluggish game at times, Beckham nearly scored the opening goal on a trademark free kick that bent just wide of the far post. He also sent in another free kick that Michael Owen headed just over the crossbar. Then, in the 68th minute, Beckham sent a free kick toward the back post and captain John Terry headed it home, giving England the lead. It was Beckham at his best, back again where many say he belonged all along.

Here's video of the goal:

England held on to the lead into the second minute of stoppage time, when poor marking int he box lead to Diego equalizing with a header from a Gilberto Silva cross.

Seconds later, the game was over and England had another disappointing result to get over. Surely it was just a friendly, but the Three Lions have been grasping for any momentum whatsoever, mired in a struggle to advance out of qualifying for Euro 2008. But now it appears as if David Beckham is back in the mix, at least for Wednesday's qualifier against Estonia.
