Preki Gets New Contract

Chivas USA has announced that head coach Preki has signed a new multi-year contract with the team. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.A two-time MLS MVP in his playing days, Preki guided Chivas to a 15-7-8 record in his first season as skipper, which was good enough for the Western Conference title. In the playoffs, the Kansas City Wizards upset the club, but the improvement seen under coach Preki was more than evident, reason enough to reward him with a new contract.

Shortly after the end of the 2007 season, Preki interviewed for the vacant New York Red Bulls coaching position, and was considered one of the top candidates for the job. In the end, New York chose Juan Carlos Osorio, something Chivas USA couldn't be happier about.

“We are pleased to secure Preki’s leadership ahead of this important era for Chivas USA,” said club President and CEO Shawn Hunter. “Throughout his career, Preki has proven himself to be a winner and we know he will continue to show his intense focus as head coach. This is an exciting time for Chivas USA as we debut in international tournaments like SuperLiga.”
